Why is Facial Fat so Hard to Get Rid of?
Facial fat isn’t like the fat on the rest of your body, and once you understand this you can really start working on the problem. First you have to realize that a puffy face isn’t always because you yourself are fat; fat on the face is just under the skin (subcutaneous) and is stored there purely for energy. Subcutaneous fat is a whole lot easier to get rid of, as it’s just there to fuel the muscles. When you move your muscles, the fat gets burned up!
Work Out!
If you’re a little overweight on the rest of your body, you’re more prone to store fat in other places on your body. Working out different parts of your body will create a deficit; this means your body won’t need to hold onto the fat on your face and it’ll migrate to where it’s needed. While working out can take a couple months to get results in your face, it’s definitely worth the benefits.
Get Hydrated and Nix the Salt
Hydration is so important to a healthy body, mind and soul; it won’t hurt to drink some more fluids! Some might tell you that you should drink only water, it’s been scientifically proven that as long as whatever you’re drinking is low in sodium it’ll help you release retained water. Humans retain fluids when there’s a body deficit, which makes little sense, but that’s just how it works. Sodium, or salt, will make you retain water, so try and kick it out of your diet as much as possible. Just by reducing your sodium intake by 300mg a day will mean you can retain a liter less of water.
Try Facial Exercises
Did you know that your face has over 52 different muscles (not counting anterior and posterior) that need fuel just as much as your biceps? Think of your face as any other part of your body, you need to move it! There are a lot of different ones you can try (jaw, neck, chin exercises, etc…) to target your own problem areas; just be sure to do them in the right order or you won’t get the benefits.
Nip/Tuck
Some people will opt for surgery to move excess fat from the face; this is something that we recommend you DO NOT DO. First, there are so many risks with cosmetic surgery (most people die from the anesthetic as opposed to the actual surgery). Second, the fat in your face isn’t like the fat on the rest of your body; there are so many fine blood vessels a surgeon needs to navigate, if they hit just one you could have catastrophic results.
